:"Real Madrid should keep faith in Cassilas"

Real Madrid should keep faith in goalkeeper Iker Casillas despite his recent high-profile errors for club and country, according to former Spain international Gaizka Mendieta. 

Casillas’ form has once again come under scrutiny following a poor display for La Roja against Slovakia, with David De Gea preferred for the next match against Luxembourg. 

But Mendieta believes Carlo Ancelotti should stick with the 33-year-old and resist the temptation to call upon Keylor Navas for Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash against Liverpool. 

“[Casillas] can still deliver, he is a goalkeeper, he will make mistakes,” the former Valencia midfielder told Goal. “It is not only the goalkeeper that defends, it is also the defenders, the midfielders… it is down to the whole team to defend. 

“I think this season could be his last at the level he used to be, [but] I think this season he can give a lot to Real Madrid. Madrid have to be clever in how they bring in Keylor Navas, if they think Navas is going to be their long-term No.1.

“Does he deserve to start against Liverpool? I think so. [Ancelotti] has made his mind up about him - don’t change now. That will break up the balance and confidence. 

“If he puts Casillas on the bench he is telling him he doesn’t trust him and doesn’t have any confidence in him. Then he could lose him completely for the rest of the season.”



Mendieta admits he has doubts about the balance of Ancelotti’s side following the sales of Xabi Alonso and Angel Di Maria, but praised James Rodriguez’s defensive efforts. 

He added: “I think James has done really well adjusting to his new role because he is no Di Maria. 

“He has to do a lot of work in defence, which he is not used to, because the attacking trio [of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema] will not track back and help. 

“Real Madrid normally have enough quality to beat lesser sides, but when they play against other big teams they are going to punish you – you need to defend with 11 men.”

Carlo Ancelotti, que concedió una entrevista en Real Madrid TV, ve a un Barcelona más motivado que el año pasado, espera repetir éxito en la Champions logrando la Undécima, alaba a Kroos y James y dice queCristiano Ronaldo “es un líder”.

Problemas a principio de temporada: “Jugadores que jugaron el Mundial, muchos partidos importantes en agosto... no ha habido mucho tiempo para preparar al equipo. Ahora el equipo está bien, motivado, con ganas y podemos seguir esta racha".

Mejor que el año pasado: “El año pasado no teníamos una identidad tan clara al principio. Ese problema no lo tenemos este año, tenemos una filosofía más clara y más nivel de juego. Solo tuvimos un problema de adaptación de los nuevos, sobre todo físicamente. Los jugadores ya están acostumbrados a jugar así. Somos mejor que el año pasado a nivel de juego, aunque hemos encajados demasiados goles. Lo estamos arreglando”.

Chelsea forward Eden Hazard says criticism from manager Jose Mourinho is helping him to develop into a better player.

The Belgium international shone under the Portuguese coach last season, though was not beyond reproach and was the subject of Mourinho's public ire after losing his man in the Blues' Champions League semi-final exit to Atletico Madrid.

Despite being singled out after Atleti's triumph, Hazard says that he has a huge amount of respect for his manager and believes that his tough love will help his potential to "explode".

"There is a lot of respect – he is the best coach in the world – and he gives me a lot of confidence," the 23-year-old told Sport Foot Magazine.

"Even after a bad match, he picks me again. He will have a little dig saying: 'Today we played with 10 [men]' but he stops there. He leaves me alone and does not go on at me."

Ronaldo Passes 100m facebook likes

Cristiano Ronaldo has surpassed the 100 million Likes on his Facebook page and released a video to thank his fans for their support.

The Real Madrid star reached the milestone on Monday afternoon and posted a video in which he expressed his gratitude to his fans before showing highlights of his life and career.

"Thank you everyone, finally I achieve 100 million fans on Facebook," the Portuguese star said in the video.
